Tex Ritter was born Woodward Maurice Ritter on January 12, 1905 in Murvaul Texas. Ritter was a singer and actor who passed away January 2, 1974 at the age of 68. After graduating with honors from high school in Beaumont Texas he attended the University of Texas at Austin in 1922. Ritter also attended Northwestern Law School in Chicago. Tex became interested in country music. He began appearing in live shows, on the radio and in Broadway productions. Ritter made recordings, acted in movies and on television for his entire career. He is also the father of actor John Ritter. Ritter can still be heard as the voice of Big Al, an singing bear at the Country Bear Jamboree in Walt Disney World.
