Jerry Reed was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 20, 1937. Reed served two years in the United States Army, then moved to Nashville in 1961 to pursue a songwriting career.
In July 1967, Reed’s “Guitar Man” hit his then highest on the country charts at #53. His signature songs throughout his career included “Amos Moses”, “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot”, “East Bound and Down”, “The Bird”, and “She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft)”.
Reed died on September 1, 2008, from complications with emphysema at the age of 71.
