Ollie Imogene “Jean” Shepard was an American honky tonk singer-songwriter who pioneered for women in country music. Shepard released a total of 73 singles to the Hot Country Songs chart, one of which reached the No. 1 spot. She married Hawkshaw Hawkins in 1960.  He was killed in the plane crash that also took the life of Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas and the plane’s pilot.  Jean remarried in 1968 and died in 2016 in Nashville, Tennessee.
